ABOUT PAULA PEARL
Although Pearl is best known for her “Bear” paintings which now hang in private collections throughout the US and Canada, she has always had a fascination with elephants and would sit for hours at zoos to study them.
Says Pearl, “I have always been absolutely captivated by the spirit and soul of living creatures- people, animals, and flowers. I chose to paint Nomkhubulwane after listening to South African sculptor Andres Botha express why he chose the elephant. The elephant is a symbol, the original pathfinder, to bring awareness as we navigate through this world, not to deplete, but to leave behind for generations to come, a clean, sustainable environment.”
The painting was unveiled at the Story Mansion on June 23 at “A South African Evening”. This fundraising event explored the culture, music and food of this fascinating country which is the “home” of Nomkhubulwane.
